The Amrit Mahotsav of Independence was started by our country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 12 March 2021 because on this day Mahatma Gandhi started the Dandi March movement on 12 March 1930. This movement lasted till 6 April 1930.


During this Mahatma Gandhi traveled 241 miles from Sabarmati to Arabian Sea with 78 followers. The purpose of this visit was to violate the British policy by Gandhi and his supporters by making salt from sea water.
